You (and or your helper) are taught to apply gentle pressures over your child’s chest and abdomen. The exercises are non-invasive, pleasant and relaxing with no discomfort caused to either the child or parent.
At the first visit you learn 8 exercises round the lower ribcage over the diaphragm. Each exercise lasts 5 minutes and there are 5 min breaks between the exercises, which can be broken into 2 or 3 sessions daily and are undertaken 6 days a week. The exercises may be done while your child sleeps as well as when awake both sitting and lying. We can advise on how to successfully approach the therapy with an active child or young adult.
The technique is very calming and pleasing to receive and consequently children with autism and ASDs come to enjoy their exercises time because they begin to associate TST with a pleasant sensation and time.
